How do the races work?

Each race is open for a set window: the 5K and mile for a day, the 10K for three days and the half marathon for a week, all in UTC. Run the distance whenever you like while it's open, submit your run, and when the window closes everyone who entered is ranked by time.

When do I get my result?

Thirty minutes after the race closes (time allowed for late submissions), the race is ranked and you get a notification with your position. It also appears on the run in your History.

Why can't I submit my run?

A run can be submitted when it was started while the race was open, it passed the app's checks, it's submitted within 30 minutes of the race closing, and you haven't already submitted a run for that race. The run's page says which of these applies.

How does STEUD check runs?

On your phone, the app checks the run was continuous and at a human pace, using GPS and timing. Only the result of the checks is sent, never your route. Runs that pass, or that are flagged for a closer look, are ranked.

Can I race with my Apple Watch or another running app?

Yes. Turn on Import runs from Apple Health in Settings. Runs from your Apple Watch, Garmin or another app that reach Apple Health with a GPS route are offered as any race they cover that's still open, timed on their fastest stretch; a pause counts in the time. A run that can't be imported says why. It enters races like any run: the 5K and free events are free, and the mile, 10K and half need STEUD+.

What is the country leaderboard?

If you choose your country (when you first open the app, or in Settings), your time counts towards your country's average. After each race you can see how countries placed on the run's page. It shows averages and numbers of runners, never individual times.

What does STEUD+ include, and how do I cancel it?

STEUD+ adds the daily mile, the 10K every three days and the weekly half marathon, plus your full results (how many you beat, your percentile and your gap to the winner) and monthly recaps. Subscriptions are managed by the app store you bought them from, where you can cancel any time.

I reinstalled the app. Where's my subscription?

Accounts are anonymous, so a reinstall starts a new one. Open the STEUD+ screen in the app and tap Restore to move your subscription to it. Runs recorded before the reinstall were only on your old install and can't be recovered.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, go to Settings → Delete account. This deletes everything on the server and on your phone. You don't need to email me. See the privacy policy for details.

My distance looks wrong

GPS works best outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Make sure Precise Location is on for STEUD (Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → STEUD), and wait for a good signal before you start. Tall buildings, tunnels and tree cover can all affect it.
